FCCLA News

After dominating at state and getting the gold, Kara Brockman’s most important FCCLA presentation lay ahead at nationals. Brockman had worked very hard and with some past experiences she was prepared coming into her final competition at the National FCCLA Convention in July. All the work paid off when Kara earned first place at the national level in level 1 Promote and Publicize.

“I began putting together my project in December of 2022 and started practicing my presentation in January,” explained Brockman.

The experience itself was very eye opening for Brockman. It was a new scene for her being in the big city of Denver and she was grateful to meet so many people. When asked a word to describe her experience she used “memorable”.

“A word that I would use to describe the experience would probably be memorable because between getting to talk to a wide range of people and getting to participate in activities organized by FCCLA I made a lot of memories,” Brockman elaborated.

Beth Fisher, Elwood FCCLA director, also thoroughly enjoyed the experience of nationals. She was inspired by all the students and stated there was great competition all the way up to the collegiate level.

“Participating in judging competitive events, it was inspiring to see so many teens driven to complete projects that were also focused on making a difference in the communities around them,” said Fisher.

Overall, Elwood is beyond proud of Kara’s accomplishment, as well as grateful for the effort Fisher has put into Elwood’s FCCLA program.
