The Elwood TeamMates program is up and running strong this year with 34 matches of students and mentors. However, there are 14 Elwood students who have expressed an interest in having a mentor and are waiting for a match. Kilah Oaklund, Elwood TeamMates coordinator, encourages anyone who is interested in being a mentor to contact her.
TeamMates mentors and mentees meet weekly to talk about their interests, play games, and do crafts. They also get together for special events a few times a year.
“One thing that is new this year is that we are going to start having our senior matches take the Gallup CliftonStrengths test. This will aid our matches in having strengths-based conversations as mentees prepare for graduation,” said Oaklund. This process will eventually trickle down into 9th through 11th grade matches.
A highlight of the year is when mentors and mentees head to Lincoln to watch the Huskers play in April.
