Elwood art students, taught by Brianna Barton, have been learning a variety of techniques and styles so far this year.
At the high school level, Art 1-3 classes are doing a still life project and a little color theory, along with a weekly sketchbook. Barton introduces distinct art styles in the sketchbook assignments, then the next week the students choose for themselves.
"I am impressed by them doing their own thing while learning the basics. This will help them improve not just their style, but help them get an understanding of what art is out there,” commented Barton.
In the future Art 1 will be focusing on monochromatic art, Art 2 will be working on analogous art, and Art 3 will be working on triadic art. After Art 1-3 students finish their distinct art styles they will start learning the Bob Ross painting method, where they will learn to create an illustration of nature.
Elementary Art is sectioned to learn the elements of art; these are shown in different projects and crafts in a variety of different mediums. Students also learn how to use the mediums correctly and safely.
“I am impressed by how well these students stay on task and don't get mixed up even though there are different levels (Art 1-3) in this class,” said Barton. “I'm always excited for Bob Ross and just with this year in general.”
