Dear Parents,
The Home Agency of Elwood is sponsoring the 9th Annual Team Jack Radiothon on September 16th. Their goal is to raise awareness and research funds for pediatric brain cancer. I would like to get the preschool children involved again this year with Preschool Pennies for a Purpose.
For those of you that are unfamiliar with our way of participating in this fundraiser, I am asking for preschool students to donate pennies that we will then donate to the Team Jack Foundation.
You may wonder why I want the preschoolers to get involved… My goal is to teach them the Purpose. The purpose is to support childhood cancer research and awareness- ABSOLUTELY!! Yet, for the preschoolers, their purpose is also to learn. To learn Empathy, Courage, Giving, and Compassion.
In the days leading up to the 16th, I will teach lessons that give the children opportunities to learn what each one of those characteristics mean and what they look like in our lives, as well as the lives of people affected with pediatric brain cancer. The students can bring their pennies to preschool anytime as we will have a jar in our classroom. Then, the day of the radiothon we will walk down to The Home Agency and give them our donation.
Please know that it’s not how much we give, but our thoughts behind the giving. I want the children to see the meaning behind Preschool Pennies for a Purpose and feel how good it is to give. This can be a learning opportunity to support their emotional growth as it is putting someone else’s needs above their own.
