Maggie Louthan is Elwood public school’s new agriculture teacher. She says she is looking forward to getting to know all the students and staff at Elwood. Louthan grew up on a farm outside of Smithfield. She decided to teach in Elwood because her family lives here and it’s closer to home.
“My class is a little different because we get to do a lot of hands-on activities. With that comes responsibility, so if you put in the work, you will do well,” said Louthan about her ag classes. She encourages all students to try taking an ag class. “Learning about agriculture is not just for the farm kids. Anyone can join an ag class or FFA... We all like food don't we?” joked Louthan.
Louthan understands the busy life of a high school student, since she was involved in speech team, one-act play, cross country, 4-H, and livestock showing. Her advice to high school students is: “Learn some type of skill. Books can take you far in life, but by learning hands-on skills you are less likely to forget them.”
In her free time, Louthan says she enjoys “binge watching tv shows, woodworking, going for walks with my dog, Wrigley, and spending time with my friends and family.”
We welcome Ms. Louthan to Elwood Public Schools!
