Elwood Senior Brooke Brockman has attended State FCCLA (Family, Career, and
Community Leaders of America) for four years and qualified to compete again this year. Some
of Brockman’s projects have been: Why students should have in school learning post-COVID
19, Depression and how you can manage it, and Making an FCCLA website. Brockman is the
president of Elwood’s FCCLA chapter.
“At state you get to meet a ton of different people. You can also see many different
careers by going to the Opportunity Fair,” explained Brockman. “You present your speech,meet
people by going to sessions, and you can also go to a dance. Then they always have this
amazing closing ceremony and you see what award you got for speaking.” Brockman said that
from this event she has learned the value of community, gained leadership skills, and has grown
in confidence.
