The District Music contest is approaching quickly and Elwood choir and band students are ready to compete. District Music contest takes place on Friday, April 22nd at the Southern Valley School. The junior and senior high band students and the senior high choir students will be attending. These groups also contain the soloist and small group students performing as well.
A few weeks ago, the students attended the FKC Music contest. Nicole Nickell, the band and choir director at Elwood Public Schools gave some insight about how it went: “I thought the FKC music contest went very well. We had eight superior ratings that went to Zoey Evans, vocal solo; Lauren Hickey, vocal solo; Delaney Collins, vocal solo; Delaney Collins and Allie Lauby, vocal duet; Delaney Collins, Allie Lauby, Zoey Evans, Mickala Clouse, Brooke Brockman, Cici Lerdall, Lauren Hickey, Alayna Moore, Xandria Pike and Kaylin Hafner, Girls Small ensemble; Lauren Hickey, tenor sax solo; Payton Muegerl, flute solo; and Payton Muegerl and Jaci Muegerl, flute and trumpet duet.
“The music students have been working hard on their concert music as well as their contest music. I'm impressed with how much improvement the students have made individually and in their perspective group. I wish them all good luck at Districts, we should have a successful day,” said Nickell.
